The humble beginnings of the INDIAN EDUCATION SOCIETY can be traced back to January
1912 when five devoted teachers laid the foundation of the King George English School,
now known as the Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya. The Indian Education Society was formally
founded on the 29th of September 1917 in Dadar, Mumbai with the noble objective
of creating an institute for the all round development of education. They were aware
that education played a very important role in the rapid advancement and overall
development of the country.
Thus since its very inception, the Indian Education Society has been pursuing the
ideals of imparting quality education to the masses. Today, it has 62 schools and
2 colleges all over the city and also recently established its first Junior College
in Bandra (E), thereby expanding their vast empire of educational institutitions
in Mumbai. IES aims at inculcating the right values in students who will be the
makers of tomorrow, in accordance with its motto : ‘Value Addition through Education’.
The advent of the Indian Education Society into the mainstream of Higher and Technical
Education was imminent. Recognizing the growing need for professionals in the field
of architecture, the Indian Education Society’s College of Architecture was started
in 1995 with the aim of moulding architecture students into high caliber professionals.
Presently, the IES’s College of Architecture offers a Bachelor of Architecture degree,
under the five years program of the University of Mumbai. The course is scheduled
as a 5-year program with examinations held at the end of every year. Through the
years, the college has always produced toppers at both institutional and University
level and has always remained active on an extra-curricular level by participating
at various Architectural Competitions and other events.
Mumbai is a fast developing city. Its’ heritage structures have to be conserved
while providing modern structures to cop up the fast growing population of Mumbai.
The number of students opting for the Architecture course has been increased in
recent years. However, still there is a deficit of seats as more and more students
rush to the City’s colleges for admission every year. The I.E.S therefore decided
on establishing the College of Architecture in Mumbai city.
To educate students to become responsible, well trained and socially committed professionals
who will respect the richness of our nature, diversity of culture and through continuous
professional development make significant contribution to a sustainable and eco
friendly build environment.
Architectural Design is a process involving inter-related issues of a diverse nature.
A proper understanding of a basic scientific background is necessary for designing
energy efficient and eco-friendly buildings and spaces within, which are simple,
natural and sustainable. Buildings should be upgraded by combining updated knowledge
and emerging appropriate technology. Building design improve the quality of human
life and promote economic well-being.
In keeping with the objectives, our institution is not only following the prescribed
course of the Mumbai University, but we also organizes workshops, seminars and other
interactive session, which serves as a form of intellectual growth for the students.
We also arrange study tour every year, which are beneficial as it gives students
the opportunity to get the amazing experience of actually seen different architectural
wonders for themselves.
