The Real Mother
Two women in the kingdom of King Soloman each claimed that a certain baby was hers. They
quarreled long and the neighbours quite fed up with their bickering. So they took them to the king.
King Soloman was known for his wisdom and everyone expected a speedy settling of the dispute.
However, all of the King’s questions up to the both women couldn’t draw out the conclusion who the real
mother was. Both were quite convincing in their answers.
The king thought for a moment or two. Then he ordered one of h his guards to take up his sword and
cut the baby into two. “No! No! Let her have the baby.” cried one of the women. The king looked at her. He
saw the pain and anguish in her eyes. Yes! She could not bear her child to but into two.
The wise king gave her the baby and punished the other woman.
Moral: Do not tell a lie.
