Annual Exhibition: Vibrance
17/02/2018
Speak to me I will learn, teach me I will understand, guide me to do, I will remember it forever.
Keeping this in mind, on the 17th of February, 2018, an Exhibition was held at IES Orion. The main aim of this exhibition was not only to display student skills and talents but also to encourage learning in a fun way.
‘Vibrance’ which was the theme of the Annual exhibition seemed to reverberate and reflect among the students and the staff of the school that morning. Distinct venues across two floors and the D’block were allotted to different subjects for the displays of projects made by the students. As one entered the Reception area itself, one could feel the pulse and magnitude of the event! The entire school was abuzz with activity.
The Chief Guest of the event was Mrs Sangeeta Kukreti, Principal of Chatrabhuj Narsee Memorial School.
The Literatti section comprised of display of charts, storytelling and various games which tested language skills and proficiency. Stories help children in expanding their imagination and knowledge of the world they live in. It develops their language skills in a holistic way and familiarizes children with the sound, rhythm and intonation of the words. The primary students narrated stories which instilled in them confidence and poise. The Middle school students delivered monologues which involved various characters from the play, ‘The Merchant of Venice’. This not only helped the children in better understanding of Shakespearean language but also was an exposure to the children and parents alike.
Hindi Sahitya gave an insight into how communication has progressed from using pigeon’s to emails. To promote Hindi language, the students used humour in their advertisements. Hindi vocabulary was seen at its best whilst explaining report and diary writing.
Maharashtrian culture was at the forefront of the Marathi Exhibition. Information about the saints of Maharashtra, Bharud along with devotional poem’s like the Ovi were being sung by the students. The students were dressed in traditional Maharashtrian attire which added flavour to the Marathi Gatha.
The Science Arena made learning fun through their exhibits and activities. The main objective was to clear the concepts of the students through active participation. Each grade presented and explained the models made by them on different topics. Students had spent long hours researching and creating working models and charts in Biology, Chemistry and Physics under the guidance of their teachers.
Mathemania has motivated and inspired students to learn and appreciate Mathematics and has given a new direction and approach to its learning. Math concepts were drilled into the minds of students by relating them to real life situations. Fractions were explained with the help of a mouthwatering pizza. Use of the game of snakes and ladders to teach polygons turned out to be a crowd puller.
Unity in diversity was well brought out by the students of Social Studies. The projects and models that were put on display were related to the field of Social Studies, encompassing the subjects History, Civics and Geography. Different models of landforms and monuments like Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar etc. were replicated to better assist in understanding. Students displayed a wide array of models based on topics such as the solar system, rivers, plateaus, natural vegetation, islands, continents and the States of India. Cultural distinctions were vividly brought out through the Powada and other dance forms.
The Commerce and Economic students came together to explain the newly learned knowledge of the commercial world. The young entrepreneurs were all ready to step into the business world with their innovative ideas and games. The functioning of an ATM was brilliantly displayed by a working model created by students of grade 9.
No Pain – No Gain seemed like the way to move forward for the Sports section. Our students who have reached the National level in sports like boxing, rifle shooting and archery have taught us that life is a sport and we must make it count. The children performed yoga which demonstrates that we can achieve a healthy body only if we have a healthy mind.
Our young IITians explained the characteristics of the various generations of computer through a game. ‘Viruses and their Prevention’ was innovatively put forth through a puppet show. The robots on display grabbed everyone’s attention and gave us a peek into the future.
Technical drawing is the use of illustration to visually communicate the functioning of a machine and its construction. Our students seem to have mastered these skills and they stole the show with their well-developed designs and innovative models for houses, water pumps and hydraulic arms.
The Performing Arts plays a key role in our students’ personal development. Over the years Music, Dance and Drama have enabled our students to become creative and confident . The melodious singing and dancing to foot tapping beats was a treat to watch. It was indeed a pleasure to watch students deliver their dialogues eloquently while performing their parts in a play.
The Da Vinci’s of our school proudly exhibited their masterpiece’s which displayed their talents in paper pasting, clay modeling, thumb impression, stamp printing, rangoli and glass painting. The beautiful paintings and art work left the spectators mesmerized. Our bright minds also taught us how to be eco- friendly by using best out of waste to make articles like paper bags, pots etc.
The parents enthusiastically motivated their children by actively participating in large numbers. Also it was heartwarming to see parents play games along with their children and purchasing student exhibits. Parents were delighted to receive prizes for the games they had won. 'Yugpurush - Mahatma‘s Mahatma'
12/02/2018
We had known Gandhiji as a political worker who gave India freedom from the British Government but the play ‘Yugpurush’ has presented him as a true spiritual leader.
The curious and eager students of Grade 8 and 9 were taken to the auditorium to watch the play 'Yugpurush – Mahatma’s Mahatma'. The play was based on the relationship between the poet, Shrimad Rajchandra Mehta and Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi. It was directed by Rajesh Joshi (of Code Mantra fame) and scripted by Uttam Gada and has been awarded 'Best Play' at the Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Awards 2017.
As the play began, one was immediately transported to a time over a century ago in colonial India. The scenes were skillfully crafted with magnificent backdrops. It was a mesmerizing view that brought alive on stage the profound relationship between Shrimad Rajchandraji Mehta and Mahatma Gandhi – the Father of the Nation.
The play showed how Gandhiji met Shrimad for the first time after returning from England in 1891. Even after Gandhiji moved to South Africa, they continued to exchange letters. These letters played a pivotal role in shaping Gandhiji’s character. Their honest friendship blossomed and Gandhiji proclaimed Shrimad as his spiritual mentor. Shrimad was the one who inherited principles of truth, ahimsa and dharma which were later crystallized as the principles of Gandhism. The whole play was interwoven with heart touching dialogues and endearing creativity which were the highlights of the play.
The students witnessed an unfolding of history with rapturous attention. ‘Yugpurush’ made us reflect upon our own values, journey and purpose in life.
It was indeed a soulful experience of empathy, integrity and timeless wisdom!

Field Trip to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya
10/02/2018
Field trip adds fun in the educational experience and enriches knowledge of the students to give them the real time experience. IES firmly believes teaching in a unique way, “If a child cannot learn in the way we teach; we must teach in a way the child can learn”. This saying is indeed true; so field trip is an exciting experience for the children to learn, going beyond the textbooks and academics.
A clue to future lies in the history and perhaps one of the best ways to learn is to see them in real. Prince of Wales Museum founded more than a century ago, now houses sculptures, paintings, arms and armour and natural history. It was rechristened by the State Government as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. The first thing that impressed the students was the palatial building.
Students of Grade VI and VII accompanied and guided by teachers visited the museum on Saturday, 10th Februaury, 2018. Welcomed by the lush green lawn of the museum, students started exploring each section. With questions full of curiosity and fun, it striked a thoughtful discussion.
The students saw interesting collections of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates. Sculptures of the Pre and Pro Historic period were also explored. The Miniature Paintings Gallery helped in understanding socio-cultural conditions of the 14th to 19th century. Students also went through all different facets of Lord Krishna’s life deciphered through paintings, metal and wood arts of that period. The students were excited to see the shield and personal armour of Emperor Akbar.
There was a picture gallery in which the students saw pictures and portraits of different kings and heroes of the past. Some related to the Gupta period and other to the Mughal. They were lovely and lifelike and spoke of the glory of the ancient India. The queer garments were embroidered all over with gold and silver threads which were as bright as ever. There were costly carpets, rugs and shawls with beautiful and artistic designs on them.
In another room, there were arranged images, pots and pans, ornaments of ladies, weapons of war and agricultural implements. This room was a store house of arts and crafts. There were life-size idols of Lord Buddha. They were made out of the rarest stones. In a corner there were some bronze statues which were thousands of years old. This room had also pottery from Pune walnut screens from Srinagar. Large vases painted in bright colors had beautiful carvings on them. There were also fine brass articles from Moradabad. There were various coins of diverse shapes and sizes, denominations and designs.
There was a section for the specimens of clothes. Silken garments from Banaras and Bangalore were there. Summer clothes from Lucknow and winter clothes from Ludhiana were there.
The journey of money from the uneven handmade metal pieces to the present machine-made Rupee presented an interesting panorama of the monetary system of India in the Coins Gallery. A beautiful range of Porcelain, Ceramics, Jade, Crystal, Enamelware, Oil Paintings, snuff bottles from China, artifacts from Japan was a great attraction.
The Museum collection comprises of artifacts which have been purchased as well as gifted by generous donors like Sir Ratan Tata and Sir Dorabji Tata.
It was a wonderful experience. The purpose of having a firsthand exposure to history was achieved and exceeded. Students were discussing, debating and trying to relate yesterday with today. This short visit to the museum was very educative, interesting and ended on a happy note.

Environment Day
06/06/2016
World Environment Day is observed every year on 5th June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. We at Orion celebrated this day on Monday 06/06/2016 with great enthusiasm with the theme “Go Wild for Life”. The day was dedicated to the prevention of illegal trade in wildlife.
Our teachers had planned a variety of activities on this day and were carried out effectively. The students were given informative talk about how to save animals. The students of Grade VIII in their speech emphasized how almost 2 million animals are killed each year for their fur, for usage in experiments, and for decorations for humans. Not only this is cruelty to animals, but that is inhumane and should be banned.
A project on Environment day was displayed. The students of higher grade wrote slogans such as :
"When you kill animals you are showing the world just who really is the animal."
"Live and let live."
“Earth is the only planet that has Life”.
"No Water no life, No blue no green”.
