31/01/2020 : Field trip to Fire Station
Field trips increase student’s knowledge and understanding of a subject and add realism to the topic of study. As the topic for Sr.KG was ‘Community Helper - Fire Fighter,’ the school organized a field trip to the fire station at Bandra. The visit was an important experience as children were exposed to reality and got hands on experience on fire safety. The personnel at the fire station showed the children, how fire fighters use the fire engine and other equipment in an emergency. They demonstrated how the different equipments like oxygen cylinder, mask, helmet, hose pipe and fire extinguisher are used. Children also saw a fire fighter in his complete fire fighting gear - helmet, boots, gloves, breathing apparatus, lights, personal hand tools and goggles. The Fire fighter also explained the rescue operation procedure which they follow when somebody is drowning in the sea and showed a mock demo to the children on how they extinguish the fire with a hose pipe. The fire fighters were surprised, as our tiny tots knew all the answers to the questions asked by them. Children were also aware of the emergency number (101) which they can call when there is a fire. Overall it was a funfilled, informative experience which children could use to associate with their immediate environment.
