Celebration of India’s National Sports Day at IES Orion

Every year on 29th August, India celebrates National Sports Day to mark the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand a legendary hockey player. This year National Sports Day at IES Orion was celebrated online during live Physical Education classes from grade 1 to 10. Students were shown video in the beginning of the class on Major Dhyan Chand, his contribution in the field of hockey and his achievements. Online quiz was conducted in the evening for the students, based on the video which was shown in the live Physical Education class.

General Knowledge Quiz

A live General Knowledge quiz competition was held on Friday, 28th August, 2020 at 9 am for standards 1 and 2. For standards 3, 4 and 5, it was held on Saturday, 29th August, 2020 at 9 am on Microsoft teams app.

The students were punctual and well behaved. Students were very enthusiastic for the quiz and all the pre-informed instructions were followed by the students which was appreciated. The students learned that knowledge is the true treasure we hold, along with patience, presence of mind and also self-control. The virtual General Knowledge quiz competition was a great success. Therefore, it was noticed that students are prepared for similar online competitions.

Primary Academic Orientation for 2020-21

“A parent is a teacher at home, a teacher is a parent in school and the child is the center of our universe.”
IES Orion School, Dadar organized an Orientation Programme on August 27, 2020. It was organized online for the new set of parents to familiarize them with the curriculum, rules and regulations of the school online teaching methodologies and the co-scholastic activities.
Welcoming parents to the new academic session, Mrs. Pratibha Prabhu – Principal spoke at length about the new online policies and techniques. She also said how important it was to keep the children engaged in studies and give them support in learning. Madam spoke about the difficulties that some students might face, but there is always help available from school and how important communication was between parents and teacher.
Mrs. Krupa Sheth- Coordinator of Primary Section, briefed parents about academic activities of the school. Also they were given an overview of the various subjects and their assessments which would be undertaken in the year ahead. Not to forget, the co-scholastic activities were also discussed that gave the parents an idea of the curriculum which is self-directed with activities that not only give our students a medium to fully utilize their creative talents and energies, but also help them in their all-round development.
The orientation programme proved to be a sincere effort made by the school in educating the parents to look after and guide their children in a proper manner. It also helped in evolving a common teaching strategy and helped the parents in identifying suitable follow up methods to reinforce the learning process of their children.

Ganesh Chaturthi Celebration

Ganesh Chaturthi festival was celebrated on Microsoft Teams online platform on 21st August, 2020 between 7 pm and 8 pm by the IES Orion Family – students, parents, grandparents and staff.
A few highlights of the informative entertainment programme are - Welcome tune followed by the introduction encompassing the history of the festival; Arrival of Lord Ganesh at IES Orion, puja, offerings, and aarti; Tales of Pruthvi pradakshina, Vyas muni and Ganapati Bappa; Shloka recitation, presentation on significance of the features of Lord Ganapati; Need and importance of eco-friendly Ganesh festival celebration, the portrayal at school with messages; culmination of the festival and its popularity worldwide; A beautiful dance performance by Std 8 students.
Some activity links of artistic objects preparation have been shared with the students.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

Independence Day has a great importance in every citizen’s life. This day reminds us every year that freedom is sacred and citizens must do everything to ensure that it shall not be endangered.
“Freedom in Mind, Faith in the words and Pride in our Souls.” Let’s salute the nation on this auspicious day.
Keeping this in mind, the celebration of the 74th Independence Day on the 15th of August, 2020 commenced on a beautiful note in IES Orion through the medium of online platform. Parents,Grandparents, Students, Staff and Faculty members were filled with a feeling of patriotism anddedication. The celebration started with a speech delivered in English highlightingthe differencebetweenthe two words Independence and Freedom, followed by the difference between Independence Day and Republic Day celebration and also focused on the importance of wearing white on this particular day.
We moved to the most important part of the celebration that is hoisting of the National Flag and together with the feeling of oneness in our heart we recited the National Anthem, which was then followed by the ZandaGeet melodiously sung by our teachers.
The celebration was then proceeded with a speech delivered in Hindi which stated the importance of our National Flag, how the flags are made and the relevance of each colour.
To keep the patriotic feeling ongoing in everyone’s heart present at this platform we then introduced the choir group of teachers who sung another patriotic song with full of rhythm and enthusiasm.
The heartfelt rendition of patriotic songs by the teachers gave way for the feelings of love and brotherhood among all, which was then followed by the speech delivered in Marathi. This speech made us aware of the importance of the correct usage of freedom and also made us realize our responsibilities and duties towards our country.
This speech was then followed by a vibrant dance on foot tapping patriotic numbers conductedby our teachers and support staff delivering a powerful message “To Stay Safe, Stay Happy and Be Blessed” which is the need of the hour.
The Independence Day celebration did not come to a halt only at the energetic and mesmerizing dancebut in order to keep the spirit of patriotism alive it was then continued with an innovative and creative activityconducted by one of our teachers that was a floral centerpiece for all ourstudents.
The celebration ended with the message to create a great nation through collective efforts from all individuals. In a nutshell, it was an event with memories worth cherishing.

Janmashtami Celebration

Whenever virtue subsides and wickedness prevails,
I manifest Myself.
To establish virtue, to destroy evil,
to save the good
I come from Yuga (age) to Yuga."Keeping this verse of the Hindu holy book Gita in mind,we celebrated Janmashtami on the common platform (Microsoft Teams). The invites were sent to the grandparents, parents, teachers and students. The story of four friends who meet on a video call after 10 years and discuss how Janmashtami is celebrated.
Krishna Janmashtami (also known simply as Janmashtami or Gokul Ashtami), is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu.
The video which had glimpses of dance-drama enactments of the life of Krishna, Rasleela, DahlHandi, friendship of Krishna Sudama, devotional singing through the midnight when Krishna was born. The verses of Holy book Gita were narrated and how teachings of Lord Krishna can be incorporated in our day to day lives was explained.
We believe that festivals help us to keep connection with our roots, culture, origin and preserve it.
So, we made a small effort to instill values and teachings amongst our students and bring them closer to our tradition through this virtual celebration.

Online Celebration of Narali Purnima & Raksha Bandhan

On 2nd August 2020, IES Orion celebrated Narali Purnima in all Classes on an online platform.
A special video was recorded where teachers apprised the children about “Narali Purnima”. The teachers explained why it was celebrated and what the fishermen and their community do on this special occasion. The information was shared in English as well as in Marathi. A special dance was put up by our teachers for this occasion. The session concluded with an inspiring moral stating the importance of positivity.

Orientation of Online Classes for Std. 9 and 10 Parents

An Orientation Programme for the parents of Std. 9 and 10 was conducted on 1st August, 2020 on an online platform to explain to the parents about the roadmap that IES Orion will follow for year 2020-21. Principal discussed some general rules to be followed during online classes. After that each subject teacher briefed the parents about their subject, sharing with them the portion deleted by the Council for the coming year. The facilitators also apprised the parents with the marking system and about the assessments and assignments taken by them to evaluate them in a comprehensive manner.
