INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA

IES Orion celebrated 7th International Day of Yoga under the theme “Yoga for well-being” on Monday 21st June 2021. Live sessions were conducted by the physical education teachers on Microsoft teams for Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary section.
In the live yoga session, general instructions before starting yoga practice, importance and benefits of yoga were explained by the teachers to the students. The session was started by the prayer and chanting of Om, then Surya namaskar and various standing, sitting, sleeping yoga posture were taught step by step to the students to increase the level of well-being.
IES Orion also celebrated International Day of Yoga for teachers on Sunday 20th June2021. One-hour live session was conducted to inspire them to include yoga practice in their daily routine.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June every year. The nature of yoga is to shine the light of awareness into the darkest cornersofthebody. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in India. The theme of the 7th International Yoga Day was 'Yoga for Wellness', which focuses on practicing Yoga to maintain physical and mental well-being.
This year’s unique virtual International Yoga Day was carried out on a common platform of Microsoft Teams on Monday, 21st June, 2021. Everyone participated enthusiastically in great number. Teacher explained the details of International Yoga Day and Importance of Yoga in our day-to-day life.
Our PE teacher guided our little tiny tots to perform various Yoga asanas. The importance of each asana was shared with the students so that they could understand the benefit of these asanas.It was indeed a joyous and memorable day for our little Orionities.

NATIONAL READING DAY

Learning to read is about listening and understanding as well as working out what is printed on the page. Through hearing stories, students are exposed to a wide range of words. This helps them build their own vocabulary and improve their understanding when they listen, which is vital as they start to read.
On 18th June, 2021, IES Orion KG decided to organise the National Reading Day programme during online session on Microsoft Teams, with focus on technology enabled reading. The 26th National Reading Dayis observed on 19th June, the following week will be observed as Reading Week and Reading Month will be celebrated from 19th June,2021 to 18th July, 2021.
We celebrated National Reading Day with an introductory PowerPoint Presentation prepared for the students of kindergarten to know about Late Mr. P.N Panicker who is the father of the ‘Library Movement in Kerala’. Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker whose death anniversary falls on 19thJune is marked as the Day of Reading, celebrated as the National Reading Day in India. The main motto of this celebration is ‘Read more and grow more’.
The National Reading Day was celebrated with read aloud stories in Nursery, Jr.KG and Sr.KG classes. Nursery class students were shown animated video story and teachers read aloud the story of ‘The Lion and the Mouse’. Children enjoyed listening to the story. Jr.KG class students were shown the story of ‘The Giraffe on the farm’ and teachers read aloud for the students. In Sr.KG class, teachers shared a PowerPoint Presentation of the story ‘Drip-Drop-Drip’ andread it aloud for the students.
Students thoroughly enjoyed listening to the stories in all the classes. Teachers emphasized more on importance of reading and encouraged students to read more to gain more knowledge.

Virtual World Environment Day Celebration

World Environment Day (WED) was celebrated in IES Orion (ICSE) on 5th June 2021 virtually by mailing an informative video to children and parents.
The video and PowerPoint presentation was prepared by teachers. The video highlighted the following points:
• The need for World Environment Day
• The year of establishment of WED
• Focus of the celebration through its theme
• Carbon footprint activity
• Waste managementThe main purpose of the celebration was to spread awareness about the need to protect the environment and the ways to do it.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

World Environment Day is observed on 5th June every year to remind people about the importance of nature. The day is celebrated across the world to inform people that nature should not be taken for granted and must be respected for its values.
On 4th June, 2021, IES Orion KG decided to organise the Environment Day programme during online session on Microsoft Teams under the theme Ecosystem Restoration (3R’s:Reimagine, Recreate and Restore).
Since it was the first day of the new academic year, teachers welcomed the students.Students celebrated the importance of World Environment Day through message-based activity.
Teachers made the students listen to various songs to help them understand the role that nature plays in our lives. Teachers also explained that this day is observed every year on 5thJune to raise global awareness to take positiveenvironmental action to protect Mother Nature and the planet ‘Earth’
What environment is and the steps on how we can restore and conserve the environment was explained through a PowerPoint presentation. Students were shown few pictures on how students can contribute and help society to save environment.
Nursery Class students enjoyed singing songs on environment. Jr.KG students did the activity of drawing and colouring a water drop, holding a placard saying “SAVE WATER”. Sr.KG students did drawing and colouring through message-based theme activity.
