Inter House English Elocution Competition

‘If you can speak, you can influence; if you can influence, you can change lives.’
The Inter House English Elocution competition was conducted on 30th June, 2022 for students of std 6, 7 and 8 in the Examination Hall on the 5th floor. It was an honour to have Mrs. Durga Patkar as our esteemed judge.
The topics in the competition varied. Each student was given 3 minutes to speak. It was impressive to see how well-prepared the students were.
The participants displayed their oratory skill with confidence and enthusiasm. The competition concluded with the announcement of the winners and few motivational words by the judge. The winners are as follows:

Inter House English Debate Competition

The Inter House English Debate Competition Final round for std 9th and 10th was held on 30th June, 2022 in the Examination Hall on the 5th floor. It was an honour to have Mrs. Vaishali Tawde and Mrs. Aparajita Sarkar as our esteemed judge.
The topic of this competition for std 9th ‘Peer pressure is healthy for individuals’ growth’ was 10th was ‘Parental support is paramount for the future success of kids.’ It was impressive to see how well-prepared the students were.
The participants displayed their debating skill with confidence and enthusiasm. The competition concluded with the announcement of the winners and few motivational words by the judge. In order to encourage more children to participate in the future, the Best Speakers from both the houses were announced.

PUPPET SHOW

Children love to play with toys and puppets. Their joy of watching puppets dancing and performing before them is enigmatic. The students of kindergarten experienced the same joy while watching the Puppet show which was organised on Thursday, 30th June 2022. All the three sections had a different theme which was as follows:
Nursery: “Welcome to School”,
Jr.KG.: “My Family”,
Sr.KG.: “My School”Fascinating puppets made the kids dance, sing and jump in excitement during all the three shows. The puppet shows not only entertained the little hearts but also taught them good values about care and affection towards family members, obeying the school rules, giving respect to teachers and classmates, being punctual, honest and many more values. Students were wonderstruck to see the intricate skill of coordination and balancing of the puppetry artists. The whole show was undoubtedly a visual treat for all the learners.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

International Yoga Day is observed every year on 21st June to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga for our physical and mental health and to practice it in our daily life.
We at IES Orion Kindergarten celebrated International Yoga Day on Tuesday, 21st June 2022 with much fervour and enthusiasm. The yoga session was conducted by the PE team for students in the stilt area. Students along with their teachers performed various yoga postures which included standing and sitting asanas followed by ‘omkar’ chanting.
Through this event students were enlightened about the benefits of yoga and the need to remain healthy and fit. The session was enjoyed immensely by the students.

Std 1-5 REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated across the world annually on June 21 since 2015. This year, the theme for International Day of Yoga was “Yoga for Humanity.” The day started with great zest and spirit where the PE team took charge and explained students about the importance of yoga.
Together we performed few asanas and PE team explained the significance of each asana on our mind and body. Students enjoyed performing yoga and did meditation to calm themselves.
Students promised to practice the asanas learnt and gather more information about this splendid day.

World Yoga Day Celebration

Like the above quote the light of Yoga was lit at IES Orion on 21st June, 2022 in the form of World Yoga Day celebration. The event began with a brief introduction on Yoga by PE Team. Warm up exercises were taken and all the students practiced and performed sitting and standing asanas, sun salutations followed by meditation and omkar chanting.
Yoga Day competition was also conducted and the winners were felicitated with certificates. The event helped us feel confident and content physically, mentally and spiritually.

National Reading Day

Keeping this inspiring quote in mind IES Orion celebrated ‘National Reading Day’ on 20th June,2022. The day is celebrated in honour of P. N. Panicker, considered as the Father of Kerala’s Library and Literacy Movement. The theme of this years Reading Day was ‘Read and Grow’.
Students enjoyed reading the library books and learnt new vocabulary. The purpose of celebrating this day was to promote reading culture and literacy.

WORLD PRODUCTIVITY DAY

One of the less well-known celebratory days, World Productivity Day. Every year on June 20th, World Productivity Day recognizes the importance of being productive. It’s also a day for people to learn how to increase their productivity. Whether it’s at home, school or work, there are ways to overcome these barriers. To be as productive as possible, it’s important to keep up with good habits. These habits include doing most important tasks first and breaking tasks into smaller pieces.
To facilitate learning and to become more efficient and productive in their studies and daily activities, IES Orion Kindergarten students celebrated World Productivity Day on Monday, 20th June 2022. Jr. KG. and Sr. KG. students enjoyed participating in a small activity on World Productive Day.
Teachers explained the students about how to utilise their time, energy and paying attention to achieve their goals through an informative talk. Jr. KG. students celebrated this day by playing different puzzle games like buttoning, lacing, zipping and unzipping in a set period of time.
Sr. KG. students did meditation - different techniques of inhaling and exhaling of air like pretending smelling a flower, blowing the bubbles, rainbow breathing and deep breathing. These activities helped the students to reduce the feeling of stress, anxiety and increased their energy levels.

Std-1-5 World Productivity Day – Time Management

To stay productive, it is necessary for students to prioritize the daily activities in order to cope up with the everyday challenges and also perform well in academics. Hence the students were trained on 'Time Management'
A small introduction was given to the children about Time Management & it’s consequences in our daily life. How to focus on work as per the time given and complete it to achieve the set goals was explained. Time is precious to us and we need to value them.
A short video in the form of story was shown to them.
Children understood the value of time, promised to do their work on time and be successful in life.

Std 1-5 READING DAY

“A book is a gift you can open again and again”. Reading has tremendous power when it comes to fueling the development of all aspects of language ability.
To instill this practice and encourage students, reading day was celebrated in IES Orion on 20th June 2022 (Monday) where students had got their favourite story book from home and a special period was allotted for their reading leisure.
Students enjoyed reading their favourite stories and shared their experiences with everyone. They look forward to celebrate such special days with zeal and enthusiasm.

WALK AROUND THE SCHOOL

“A walk around the school” was organised for the kindergarten students on Friday, 17th June 2022. Students along with their teachers got an opportunity to move around the school. They explored different school areas such as Principal Madam’s Cabin, the Admin Office, Co-ordinator Madam’s cabin, stilt area, school playground, canteen, library, sick bay, staff room, visitor’s lounge and various activity rooms like ball pool room, puppet room, games room, music room, speech and drama room, art room and computer lab. Students were able to interact with the school staff. The main objective behind this event was to make students familiar with the school environment.

NATIONAL READING DAY

Reading is important as it develops our thinking capacity and gives important life lessons. It moulds our personality and makes us a better person. Reading has tremendous power and fuels the development of all aspects of language ability.
IES Orion Kindergarten celebrated National Reading Day on Friday, 17th June 2022 with an introductory PowerPoint Presentation prepared for the students of kindergarten to know about Late Shri. P. N. Panicker who is the father of the ‘Library Movement in Kerala’. Shri. Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker whose death anniversary falls on 19th June is marked as the Day of Reading, celebrated as the National Reading Day in India. The main motto of this celebration is ‘Read more and grow more’.
The National Reading Day in Kindergarten was celebrated through various reading activities. Jr. KG. students had fun doing rebus reading of Humpty Dumpty through a PowerPoint Presentation. In Sr. KG. students were shown animated story and teachers read aloud the story of ‘The Giraffe on the farm’. Students enjoyed listening to the story.
It was an enriching and enjoyable day that ended with great satisfaction and success.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

IES Orion Kindergarten students celebrated World Environment Day on Monday, 6th June 2022 with great zest. The main purpose of the celebration was to create awareness about the need to protect the environment and the ways to do it.
The celebration in kindergarten began with an introductory speech by the teachers on why and when we celebrate World Environment Day and a detailed information was shared with the students through a PowerPoint Presentation. Different fun filled activities were also conducted to enhance their learning.
Students of Nursery class gave a blue wash on a cut-out of a water droplet with a message ‘SAVE WATER’. Jr. KG. students made an Earth badge with a message ‘GO GREEN’ on which they gave a blue wash with sponge to depict water and they also stuck green pieces of paper to depict land. Sr. KG. students drew and coloured a water droplet and the Earth - hand in hand and wrote a message ‘SAVE WATER’.
More emphasis was given on ‘SAVING WATER’ and ‘GOING GREEN’ for ‘BETTER ENVIRONMENT AND BETTER TOMORROW’.

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

To familiarise the parents about the new classes, teachers, curriculum and the various activities, an Orientation Programme was organised in IES Orion Kindergarten on Saturday, 4th June 2022 in the Examination Hall. The Orientation Programme was conducted in three batches – for Nursery Parents from 8:00am to 9:00am, for Jr. KG. Parents from 10:00am to 11:00am and for Sr. KG. Parents from 12:00noon to 1:00pm.
Welcoming parents to the new academic session, Mrs. Pratibha Prabhu - Principal, IES Orion spoke at length about the benefits of effective communication between parents and teachers. She also spoke about different ways of nurturing a child with love and care to build a strong foundation for a glorious future. She highlighted the role of parents in shaping their children, especially in the crucial years of their growth. She shared few tips about good parenting and emphasized on spending quality time with their children to unfold the potential and support them to reach their highest calibre.
The KG Coordinator introduced her team of teachers to the parents. The parents were briefed about the vision and mission of the school. She also announced the results of the previous batches. The parents were taken on a small virtual tour of the KG Section and were informed about the various facilities offered by the school through a presentation.
Later, respective teachers gave an overview of the various activities which would be conducted throughout the year. Not to forget, the co-scholastic activities were also discussed that gave the parents an idea of the curriculum which is self-directed with hands-on learning activities, that not only give our students a medium to fully utilize their creative talents and energies, but also help them in their all-round development.
The orientation programme proved to be a sincere effort made by the school in educating the parents to look after and guide their children in a proper manner. It was an opportunity for the parents to know about the activities of the school and to create a bond with the teachers as the school is a home away from home for their wards. This initial interface gave them more clarity as they embark on this new journey.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

IES Orion Kindergarten students enjoyed their first day of school on Friday, 3rd June 2022. On this day, any one parent was allowed to accompany the child in order to make the child feel comfortable in the new school environment.
The class teachers of Nursery, Jr. KG. and Sr. KG. respectively conducted a meeting to discuss the important guidelines and give general instructions to the parents about the school.
Students were given an opportunity to introduce themselves in the class, which helped them to develop their social skills and self-confidence. Students enjoyed this day along with their teachers by singing actions songs and rhymes.
Coordinator Madam, Co-teacher, Value Education teacher, Music teachers, PE teachers and the Class Helper were introduced to the parents and students. It was beneficial in making students familiar to teachers and the school.
Welcome puppets and take away goodies were distributed to the students as a token of love. It was a fun-filled day.
