Merry Christmas
Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. It was celebrated with great joy. Students came dressed as Santa, Reindeer etc. They made Paper Christmas Caps and reindeer head gears. Christmas carols were sung and X’mas songs were played. Teacher dressed as Santa and distributed gifts to the students. Project depicting birth of ‘Jesus Christ’ was displayed.
The story of the birth was narrated and power point presentations were shown. The entire school was filled with joyous festive atmosphere. Teachers and students exchanged ‘New Year Wishes’ to each other.

Students celebrated the festival of Christmas with their favourite Father Christmas, Santa Claus, amidst cheers of joy and foot tapping music as they sang ... Jingle Bells Jingle bells.
Students were overjoyed when they received a wonderful gift from Santa Claus.

Field Trip to Kora Kendra, Goregaon

Students of Grade VIII and IX went on a field trip to Kora Kendra, Goregaon.
Students watched the artifacts depicting the life of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Also, they watched small scale industries like pottery making.

Trip to Sanjay Gandhi National Park

Students of Grade VI and VII went on a field trip to Sanjay Gandhi National Park. br />
The students enjoyed their encounter with nature, as the travelled in the mini train, watched a presentation, and watched the carvings in the Kanheri caves with great awe. They enjoyed the caves all the more as it related to their current Social Sciences topics. -
Field Trip to Taraporewala Aquarium

Senior KG students visited ‘India's oldest aquarium and one of the city's main attractions Taraporewala Aquarium. This small aquarium has over 100 species of marine and fresh water fish and underwater creatures, including turtles, morays, sharks and recently added varieties of coral fish from the Lakshadweep islands.
Students observed fishes kept in large glass tanks, which were lit with LED lights. The exotic fish from overseas has been introduced along with the 40 new varieties of freshwater fish. These fishes were housed in larger tanks than before with imported flexi glass for better visibility.
Students also observed the remains or impression of sea plants and sea animal embedded in rock and preserved in petrified form. It also included bones, shells, skeletons, stone imprints of sea animals and pearl shells (oysters).

Field Trip to MAHANAND DAIRY

Students of Std. I to V had gone on a Field Trip to MAHANAND DAIRY, GOREGAON, on Saturday, 15th December 2018.
Students were explained in detail about the process of the milk from the farm to the dairy and from dairy to the market. The points are as follow:
When the cow is milked after that the milk is refrigerated.
Milk is collected from the farm every 24 or 48 hours. The tankers that are used have special stainless steel bodies which are heavily insulated to keep the milk cold during transportation to the processing factory.
Whole milk, once approved for use, the weight of the tanker is measured and is pumped into storage silos where it undergoes pasteurization, homogenization, separation and further processing.
There are in all 9 silos in Mahanand Dairy. The capacity of 1 silo is 1 lakh litre.
Now the milk is ready to be packaged for delivery to the stores. The milk travels through pipes to the automatic packaging machines that fills and seals the milk into plastic bags.
As the containers move through the assembly line, a date is printed on each of them to show how long the milk will stay fresh.
The room temperature where the milk bags are stored is -4 degree Celsius.
Children were given take aways of Milk, shrikhand and lassi, which they relished a lot.
The field trip was very informative and enjoyable. -
Pet Animals – Nursery

Pets work wonders for our body, soul, and mind.
Nursery kids were overjoyed to see a pet rabbit and a dog. Our little ones were stimulated with love and laughter but above all they were delighted with happiness.
Students observed physical features, sound and food habits of rabbit and dog as a part of EVS topic ’Pet animals’.

Field Trip to Don Bosco Church

Sr. KG students visited Don Bosco Church, Matunga, one of the oldest religious institutions in the city of Mumbai. Students were thrilled by the unique atmosphere that prevails in church.
They observed Confession box, mirror paintings of the birth events of Jesus Christ and statues of Mother Mary, Joseph and Jesus Christ. They were overjoyed at seeing the baby Jesus with Mary, His mother. The story of the birth of Jesus Christ was narrated and candles were offered with devotion.
Students thanked Father Fernandez and ‘Thank you card’ and Flowers were presented as a token of gratitude.

MR Vaccination Drive

MR Vaccination Drive was conducted at IES ORION on Monday, 10th December, 2018.
The Measles-Rubella campaign is a part of global efforts to reduce illness and deaths due to Measles And Rubella/ Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) in the country.
Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has initiated measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign in the age group of 9 months to less than 15 years.
In accordance to the above campaign, the vaccination drive was conducted for the students of IES ORION on 10th December 2018.It was conducted by the Doctors and Medical Officers of the BMC.
Students were vaccinated in the presence of their parents. Most of the students happily walked away after the injection. Very few of them cried bitterly due to fear of the injection, but went away happily later after knowing that it did not really hurt.

Dr. Ambedkar Commemoration Day

The school paid homage to the Great Social Reformer, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who was the father of the Indian Constitution.
The students were also informed about his residence-Rajgriha which is opposite our school Orion.
Every year people from all over Maharashtra come to Chaitya Bhumi, Dadar to pay their homage.
Students spoke about his great work for the upliftment of the society.

Animal Safari

Birds and animals play an important role in human life.
During this week students shared information with different materials on the topic ‘Birds and Wild Animals’ to facilitate learning.Teachers explained that the birds and animals are used for food, skin, teeth, fur, labour, and companionship by humans over countless generations. Eighty percent of Earth’s land animals and birds live in forests and many cannot survive the deforestation that destroys their homes. So we should stop deforestation and start caring for them. Teachers set up a project and a Powerpoint Presentation on Birds and Wild Animals was shown.
