Farewell to Grade X students

The event began with a beautiful rendition of welcome song. The judge for selecting Master and Miss Orion was Ms. Reema Mediratta. The students had a glamorous ramp walk and swayed in their own style being super iconic. The second round encompassed the introduction given by the selected students about themselves. The last round was a question and answer round which crowned Harsheet Singh as our Master Orion and Akshara Mathure as Miss Orion.
The programme then was followed with the group dance performances by the juniors. Cherishing memories were shared by Class IX student, Master Rahul Bhushan in his speech that created an emotional moment. The Class IX student, Ms. Adhya Chaugule gave a lovely message to her seniors bidding them a farewell and all the luck in their future endeavours.
Later, the programme was followed with the award ceremony and title distribution. Awards were given to the seniors keeping in mind their talents like text savvy, Bermuda Triangle award etc.
The Principal, Ms. Pratibha Prabhu gave a very encouraging speech to the students. She guided the students with regards to their Board examination. She made sure that the farewell party was enjoyed in the utmost manner by every student.Her words of motivation filled the students with wisdom and enthusiasm to be a “Go Getter.” She warmly welcomed the students to visit the school whenever they want without any hesitation.
The teachers sang a beautiful farewell song which was a complete surprise and made each one of them feel truly special. The last song delivered by the Grade IX students brought tears in the eyes of their seniors.
The stage was left to Class X students as they danced their hearts out during the DJ time which was followed by the delicious lunch served for them.

Field Trip To Byculla Fire Station

Senior KG students visited Byculla Fire Station. Actual demonstration was shown to the students which helped them to understand the topic “Community Helper- Fireman”. This demonstration was given along with the fire tools.
They were thrilled to watch the huge fire engines with huge air lifted cranes, the flow of water with great force from the hose pipe and other firefighting apparatus. ‘Thank you card’ was given as a token of appreciation for the hard work put in by ‘Fire Fighters’.

Grandparents’ Day

Grandpa and Grandma, You are my world!
This special event was organized for our ‘Dear Orion Grandparents’. Pre Primary students showed their love and respect for their grandparents through their performances. Grandparents enthusiastically participated in the celebration. Some of them participated in solo performances like dancing, singing and story-telling.
Grandparents performed on various melodious songs and also participated in a game that was specially organised for them. Gifts were distributed. Every moment of this event was enjoyed thoroughly.
The teachers and remaining students enjoyed buying vegetables as the ‘Customers’ from these ‘Cute Green Grocers’.

Republic Day

Our little Patriots did colouring of our ‘National Flag’ and made ‘Flag Badges’. Children shared information on ‘Republic Day’ and Freedom Fighters of India. The project was displayed and information about the ‘Indian Constitution’ was delivered by teachers through powerpoint presentation.
Students and teachers saluted our ‘National Flag’ and ‘Freedom Fighters’ and promised that they will keep their beloved country ‘India’ ‘Clean and Green’.

Vegetable Market set up for Nursery

‘Eat Veggies Everyday So That The Diseases Will Be Out Of Your Way’.
‘Vegetables’ are the most important part of our daily balanced diet. After learning about vegetables and their nutritional values, our nursery students had an opportunity to enhance their knowledge through ‘hands on experience’. ‘Vegetable Market’ was set up by teachers. Many children dressed up as ‘Vegetable Vendors’ and enacted the same.Variety of vegetables were brought and introduced to the students. They were very excited to touch, feel and to smell the fresh vegetables.
The teachers and remaining students enjoyed buying vegetables as the ‘Customers’ from these ‘Cute Green Grocers’.

Thanks Giving Week

Without ‘Community Service’, we would not have a strong quality of life. ….
To inculcate the value of ‘Dignity of Labour’ we invited few ‘Community Helpers’ as ‘Resource People’ to celebrate ‘thanks giving week’. A project was set up and this was supported by a power point presentation.
Students dressed up as ‘Community Helpers’ and enjoyed enacting the same character. They shared information with different material on the topic ‘Community Helpers’ to facilitate learning.
Electric Safety Week

One minute is all you need to take the pledge to make sure your family is safer this year.
Electric Safety Week was observed from 15th January, 2019 to 21st January, 2019.
To promote safety discussions and create safer boundaries, students of IES Orion took a pledge for safety as follows:
1. I will not touch any electrical device, switches in my house with wet hands. Nor will allow my mother, father, brother, sister to do so.
2. I will not pull out through wires the plug tops or use multi-plug nor will let anyone to do so. Because I know that due to this we get electric shock or may catch fire, so will always use 3 pin plug top.
3. I will not fly kites nor allow anyone to fly kites under the high voltage electric cables.
4. I nor my friends will climb up the trees near the electric wires nor shake the branches nor let anyone to do so because I’m aware that we will get electric shock and will cause accidents.
5. I will not allow my younger brother, sister to travel alone in the lift. I know it’s dangerous.
6. In case fire takes place in the building I will not use the lift nor allow anyone to do so.
7. I will not touch the open electric wires lying in the house or outside the house nor will let anyone to do so.When someone makes a pledge, they make a serious promise that they will do something. Hence with the above pledge the students of IES Orion make a promise to ensure the safety of themselves and their surroundings.
Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti was celebrated with great joy. Students were made aware that this festival is dedicated to the ‘Sun God’ and also marks the beginning of a six month auspicious period known as ‘Uttarayana’.
Kite making activity was conducted on Monday 07/01/2019 as a part of a Science Activity. Students made paper kites of different colours and played with them in the stilt area. They promised that they will not hurt birds while flying kites.
Concept related to air, heavy and light was explained to the students. Sesame (Til) Laddoos were distributed as a source of energy during winter season.
Intra School English Recitation Competition

The Intra School English Elocution Competition was held at Orion in the Examination Hall on 12th January, 2019. The competition was judged by Dr. Indu Kulkarni and Ms. Rupangi Sharma.
One Best speaker from each grade was selected. The selection of the best speaker was based on mainly five criteria's i.e. Content, Lang/ Style, Diction/ Pronunciation, Voice Modulation ,Clarity, Expression and Volume.
The participants had to follow the rules mentioned below:
• Each participant will be given maximum time of 3 mins to speak.
• A warning bell will be rung after 2 ½ mins and final bell after 3 mins.
Compering was done by students of Grade 7 and 9.Free expression is the base of human rights, the root of human nature and the mother of truth. So, this gave our children a platform to express their opinion freely and exhibit their vocabulary skills.
Children were given a variety of topics for elocution as follows:Grade VI i) An interview with a fairy tale character ii) After I grow up……. Grade VII i) What if there was no Harry Potter? ii) Life in Mumbai Grade VIII i) My health, my responsibility ii) What adults can learn from children Grade IX i) The unsung Hero ii) Is pollution a necessary evil?
The honorable judges really appreciated and applauded the performance of the participants. They also gave their valuable inputs in order to help the students to surpass their flaws and enhance their oratory skills.
Ms. Ashana Rajgopal was adjudged the Best Speakers of Grade VII.
The participants were successful in showcasing their talent and highlighting the essence of the topics given.Intra School English Recitation Competition

The Intra School English Recitation Competition was held at Orion on 12th January, 2019. The competition was judged by Ms. Olivia Gomes and Ms. Maria Vasudevan.
One Best speaker from each grade was selected. The selection of the best speaker was based on mainly five criteria's i.e. Content, Language/ Style, Diction/ Pronunciation, Voice Modulation and Clarity.
Compering was done by Grade 5 and 6 students.
As we all know, poem is meant for enjoyment. Beauty is the realm of the poetry; the children enjoy the beauty of expression, thoughts, feeling, rhyme, rhythm and music of words. Taking all these facts into consideration the children got an opportunity to exhibit their talent and confidence.
Children were given a variety of topics for their recitation like:Grade I a) Animals b) Beach / Seaside Grade II a) Trees b) Chocolate Grade III a) Humour b) Seasons Grade IV a) Magic b) Books Grade V a) Patriotism b) Ballads
The honorable judges appreciated and applauded the performance of the participants. They also gave their valuable inputs. The participants were full of vigor, excitement, enthusiasm and enjoyed the competition to the fullest. All the participants performed exceptionally well.

Sandwich Making Competition

The school had arranged ‘Sandwich Making’ competition for Grandparents. We received extraordinary response for the same. Paternal and Maternal grandparents both had participated in the competition. Sandwiches were made with innovative and nutritious ingredients.
It was really a tough task for the Judge Ms. Puja Mittal, an entrepreneur and Master Chef of ‘My Tree’ app. Prizes were given and gifts were distributed. Principal Madam appreciated the efforts taken by ‘Orion Grandparents’.
Grandparents thanked the management of the school for giving them a platform to showcase their culinary skills. This event was a great success.

‘Peeling potatoes’ Activity
09/01/2019
Teacher introduced vegetable ‘potato’ to her nursery students. After introduction ‘boiled potato’ was shown. Demonstration of peeling potatoes was shown by teachers and students followed the same. Peeling boiled potato was very stimulating for small kids.
Potato chat was made and students relished the same with great happiness.
‘Shelling Peas’ Activity

Teachers introduced vegetable ‘green peas’ to nursery students. Demonstration of shelling peas was done by teacher. Students enthusiastically participated in ‘shelling peas’ activity. This activity helped to improve fine motor and eye hand coordination, number concepts and attention span. Students were excited to see the collection of green peas in their container.
