ATHENA Competition

Venue: N. L Dalmia High School, Mira Road, Mumbai-401104.
Day 1 of this mega platform was a journey presenting a range of highly entertaining fun filled and captivating events spanning a broad spectrum of activities in Sports, Creative Writing, Graffiti Painting, Advertisements,Singing, Dancing, Computer Programming, Movie making and many more.
These mesmerizingly enthralling activities continued on Day 2 as well where the participants enjoyed activities like Dezi Beats, Mime Act, Tug of War, Treasure Hunt, Collage making etc. The crowning glory of these exhilarating events was Master and Miss Athena.
The day started with a lot of enthusiasm packed inside the students as they participated in the Obstacle Race, Penalty shootout .The street play was performed by students on the themes of Superstition and Corruption which was an eye opener against the superstitious beliefs and a loud roar against corruption. The event of Pardeshi Hoppers was truly fun filled as they moved to the rhythm of the music. The sip and snack activity was deliciously exciting for the participants.
Poster making and graffiti were the artholic competition. The topic for Poster making was “Women Empowerment” and “The Upcoming Year 2025.” The topic for Graffiti painting was “Mother.”Each group was given wordslike Humble, Loyal, Wonderful etc. Orionites wonderfully painted their feelings for their mother on the canvas expressing the word “Wonderful” beautifully. The Orionites also nailed it in the event of Mind Twister as they brilliantly put their heads together to the twisted questions and fetched a prize in this event.
Where word fails, music speaks. Students won the hearts of the judges and fetched a prize in the Sur Kshetra competition.
Ad Rizma was a great learning activity for the participants to gear up to display their new products in front of the crowd. The students created their own jingles and advertised their products. Eloquence gave a voice to the participants to project their thoughts firmly on the topic of the future leaders.
The second day was fun filled with exciting events like Paint your Sole and Collage making in which the artists displayed their talent. Laughter is the best medicine and so the event like Mime act which was based on the theme of Comedy performed by various schools gathered great appreciation and lighted up the mood of the audience. It was a laughter therapy for the crowd.
The events like Tug of War and Treasure Hunt made the participants get to the pinnacle of utilization of their energy and created an enjoyable atmosphere. The other events like Temptations salads n sprouts was enjoyed by the participants as it emphasized on the aspect of healthy living.
The crowning glory of these exhilarating events was Master and Miss Athena.
Athena– the two day extravaganza was on amalgamation of talent, innovation and inspiration. It proved to be an apt stage for exhibiting creativity and talent. It aimed at providing the right environment to nurture holistic development of the students in an awe-inspiring and attractive avenue.IES Orion participated for the first time in Athena Competition and received prizes in three events. The experience amassed was of a great value for all the participants.

Dental Check Up

A healthy smile is a sign of HEALTHY TEETH. A dental Check up of the students was organised by the school, with the aim to inculcate a habit of healthy brushing habits and stress the significance of good oral hygiene in the students. The team of Dentists from SABKA DENTIST checked the students’ teeth and gave a written report to each child, for the parents to be made aware of their wards oral health condition and take necessary corrective measures as and when required.

Puppet Show

Senior KG Students enjoyed an informative puppet show on “Back to School” Teachers gave a beautiful insight into safe travel and good habits to be inculcated. Even students were made aware about the different areas of the school and disciplinary rules through a joyful puppet show.
Junior KG students were shown an entertaining puppet show on ‘My Family’. Introduction of family members and their role in the family and importance of each member was conveyed through the puppet show. Nursery students were also witness these puppet shows and thoroughly enjoyed them.
The entire session was conducted with help of puppets, narrating real life situations, correlating with ‘Value Education’ and touching all the areas of development.

Dental Check up

The key to keep a bright and healthy smile throughout our life is to practice proper oral hygiene.
Dental check-up was conducted to check the cleanliness of our student’s teeth and gums.
A team of dentists conducted the check-up. They were happy with the ‘Oral Hygiene’ of our students and the awareness that our parents have about dental health. Students were also given an insight into good oral hygiene and brushing techniques. Students promised to follow daily good oral hygiene practices at home.

Assembly BY Students of Grade 2

The students of Grade 2 conducted the assembly on 26th June, 2018. The topic was ‘Cultural Diversity in Indian Food’. As food is an important part of our Indian culture, the aim was to impart the value of preserving & respecting variety of culture & tradition of our country.
Students welcomed the assembly followed by a group of students coming at the podium one after the other, speaking about different kinds of food in different Indian states. Each student in the group represented himself/herself as a resident of an Indian state & spoke few words on the popular dishes of that particular Indian state.
Further, few tips on healthy eating habits were given.

NOVELLA COMPETITION

Venue: St. Mary‘s ICSE School,
Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai.Our students of Primary and Secondary participated in an ICSE competition for the first time.
List of the events were as follows:
1) Open Mic:-where in participants used their voice and expressions to bring a book alive, which was amazingly performed by our students.
2) Weaving Spindles:- Students ran their imagination wild as they spun a terrific tale using the array of props in front of them.
3) Uncle Podger Hangs a Picture: -It was a collage making competition. Students had a fun filled experience making the collage and using their skills effectively.
4) Judge a book by its artist: - The students had to design a cover page and convey a thoughtful exploration of the theme- Reading – My Superpower.
5) Fic Tale: - A story writing completion for our budding bards. Students penned down their thoughts.
6) Stipple a Stanza: - A poem was read and students filled in the colours on the canvas…A painting competition with a difference.
7) Crown a Sonnetist :- Students created a beautiful imagery with words.Workshops:-The Doodle workshop conducted by Miss. Lavanya Karthik was a fruitful experience. The Workshop on Grooming and Etiquettes by Ms. Sanjana was a wholesome experience.
Success is the journey not a destination…the journey for our students has begun !

International Yoga Day

The importance of ‘Yoga’ was explained. Yoga helps to control the mind and maintain a healthy body. It helps people to lead a disciplined life. Mr. Umesh Nawale, Yoga Trainer, AYUSH, Ministry of Govt. Of India, was invited as the Resource person.
Students of KG to Grade 10 participated in the Yoga session.
Yoga Exercises like Pranayam, Breathing techniques, Chanting of the Omkar, Kapalbhati, Tadasan, Padmasan, etc. were performed by our students.

International Yoga Day

Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. International Yoga Day was celebrated on Thursday 21st June 2018.
The importance of ‘Yoga’ was explained such as Yoga helps to control the mind and maintain a healthy body. It helps people to lead disciplined life. "Yoga binds body, mind, intelligence and soul and provides a balance to mind and body. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well-being.
Students and teachers enthusiastically participated in ‘Yoga Day’ by practicing yoga.

Assembly conducted by Grade 3 students

The topic of the Assembly was Safety and First Aid.
Students gave information about safety and First aid they elaborated that it is an emergency treatment of illness or injury in order to maintain life, to ease pain and to prevent deterioration of the patient's condition until professional medical help can be obtained.
A student showed the First aid kit that included a variety of items that helped to treat cuts, scrapes, injuries including sprains and burns. He further said that first aid kit is a collection of supplies and equipment that is used to give medical treatment.
It is rightly said that Working without safety rules is like skating on thin ice – sooner or later you will be in the hole. In the end a beautiful poem was recited by students about Safety and First Aid.

Walk Around The School

Students were taken around the campus and introduced to the different working areas of the school like Computer room, Art room, Library, Stilt area, School ground and Canteen etc. making them familiar with school environment and the people who work at school. They were very excited to walk around the huge ‘Orion Building’.

Assembly

‘School Assembly’ was conducted on the eve of “World Environment Day” A beautiful song and an informative speech were delivered by a student from Sr.KG. Power point presentation with appropriate message like ‘Save trees’ was displayed. Students made beautiful drawings with the message ‘Save Earth’. Teachers explained students that this day is observed every year on 5 June’ to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect Nature and the planet ‘Earth’. Students promised to ‘Ban Plastic’ and to ‘Use ‘Eco Friendly Products’.

ORIENTATION AND PARENTS MEETING

The school reopened with great excitement. The coordinator welcomed the parents and students for the new academic year 2018-19. Orientation programme was conducted to update the parents with the curriculum and activities of Kindergarten and also to build good rapport with the parents. A ‘Class Meeting’ was conducted by respective class teachers to familiarize parents with the working pattern of the school.
JUNE COMES AND BACK TO SCHOOL
Students were greeted with colourful ‘Welcome Puppets’. They introduced themselves and thus interacted with their classmates and teachers. Students enjoyed colouring activity and playing in KG Play Area.
